🐶 Measuring guide for a Y-harness
For a Y-harness, you need five measurements:
1. Sternum-neck length
2. Head circumference
3. Abdominal circumference
4. Back strap
5. Chest strap
1. Sternum-neck length (Do not measure neck circumference, only one side of the neck)
How to measure correctly:
Measure from the protruding bones, from the sternum to the withers (palpable center between the shoulder blades in the neck area).
2. Head circumference (Measure over the thickest part of the skull – not the neck circumference!)
How to measure correctly:
• Place the tape measure at the thickest part of the skull.
• Wrap the tape measure all the way around – if the ears are floppy, place it over the ears.
3. Abdominal circumference (NOT directly behind the front legs!)
How to measure correctly:
• Measure the circumference a little behind the front legs, where the rib cage is widest, but NOT directly in the armpit.
• The tape measure should run freely without slipping into the armpit.
Why: Directly behind the legs → chafes. Too far back → harness fits too loosely.
4. Back strap (Length on top of the back)
How to measure correctly:
• Start at the top of the neck.
• Guide the tape measure over the back to the point where the belly strap should later sit → i.e., a little behind the front legs, not directly behind them.
Why: The back strap determines whether the harness pulls up at the front or slides back.
5. Chest strap (Length on the front of the chest)
How to measure correctly:
• Find the point below the neck, where the neck and chest meet (collarbone area).
• Place the tape measure there and guide it vertically down over the chest.
• Measure to the point where the lower belly strap should later sit – a little behind the front legs, so that nothing chafes.
Why: If the chest strap is too short → the harness presses into the throat. If it is too long → the harness hangs too low and is unstable. Only with the correct length does the Y remain cleanly in position at the front.

For gentle cleaning, we recommend using our laundry bag – for a longer lifespan and to protect your washing machine.
